Autry Libraries Acquire Important Western Fiction Collection
We are pleased to announce the acquisition of a fascinating new fiction collection. Consisting of approximately 3,420 paperbacks, it includes titles by nearly every major Western author, from Andy Adams to Carter Travis Young.
The collection was purchased from Joseph Valles Books in Stockbridge, Georgia. Originally assembled by an individual living in the Piedmont region of Georgia, the entire collection was donated to a Friends of the Library Group. The donor spent several decades collecting popular Western fiction paperbacks, an incredible effort for which the Autry Libraries are very grateful.
All of the books have very colorful, dramatic pictorial covers, illustrating nearly 60 years of popular Western imagery. The changes in cover style and subject reflect social mores of the day, especially as relate to popular perceptions of the American West.
This new collection complements the Autry’s existing Western fiction collections, including the Roger Creed Collection, the Thomas E. Kelley Collection, and the Fred Rosenstock Collection.
